With its longer days and warmer weather, spring is the perfect time to plan a trip with the family – and we can’t think of a better destination than our riverside hotel in Christchurch. Not only is our hotel home to an award-winning restaurant and spa, but it’s also the perfect base for anyone looking to explore everything that Dorset has to offer.
To help you plan your stay, we’ve put together five of the best things to see and do for families.
Watersports
Located right on the banks of the River Stour, we’re perfectly placed for families dreaming of an action-packed day on the water. Whether you simply want to cruise along the river on a private boat or take things at your own pace on a paddleboard, we’re on hand to help you organise it all. You can even hire equipment next door to our hotel, so don’t worry if you don’t have your own!
Southbourne Beach
No holiday would be complete without a trip to the beach, and just two miles from Captain’s Club, Southbourne is a favourite with families and surfers. It’s safe and quiet and offers a mix of sand and shingle, making it perfect for a trip with the little ones. Facilities include toilets with access for disabled visitors, first-aid posts, lost-children centres, information offices, and a selection of pubs, cafés, and kiosks serving food and drink.
Adventure Wonderland
Inspired by the colourful world and characters of Lewis Carroll’s classic, Adventure Wonderland boasts a huge range of rides and attractions. From the winding Alice in Wonderland Maze to the Turbo Teacups, there’s plenty to keep the kids busy all day. This destination is just five miles from our hotel and has even been named Dorset’s top family attraction.
Aquariums
While we’re reluctant to admit that it ever rains here in sunny Dorset, sometimes the weather isn’t as bright and sunny as we’d like. But a rainy day doesn’t have to be a washout. A visit to one of our local aquariums is the perfect way to embark on a magical underwater adventure while staying warm and dry. From colourful tropical fish to species native to the Jurassic Coast, there’s lots for the whole family to see and do. Dorset is home to three different aquariums, so make sure you look at other attractions nearby and make a day of it!
Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park
Splashdown Poole
With 13 indoor and outdoor waterslides, as well as three splash zones for under-fives, it’s no surprise that this waterpark is popular with families of all ages. There are even sun-kissed terraces and a Jacuzzi for grown-ups to relax in after they’ve explored the slides. The park also has its own café where you can grab a selection of hot and cold drinks and snacks.
